The 3rd May 2025 was a great day for Singapore. On the eve of our 60th Anniversary (SG60) of National Independence on 9 August 1965, Singaporeans went to the Polls in the 2025 Singapore General Elections (GE2025) to reaffirm the longstanding dominance of the People’s Action Party (PAP) while displaying subtle shifts in the nation’s political landscape. The world witnessed the blooming and coming of age of Singapore political democracy.

The PAP in GE2025 received 65.57% of the popular vote, up 4.34% from 61.23% in GE2020, and its highest margin of victory in more than a decade, from a larger electorate of 2,758,858 eligible voters, an increase of 107,000 (4%) from 2,651,435 in 2020.

As of 2025, Singapore has 14 registered political parties. In GE2025, 11 political parties fielded 211 candidates, alongside two independent candidates across 33 constituencies [comprising 15 Single Member Constituencies (SMCs) and 18 Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs)]. Of the 211, the ruling PAP fielded 97 candidates while the remaining 114 represented the other political parties.

The PAP’s comprehensive presence across all constituencies also highlighted the challenges Opposition Parties faced in mounting widespread contests to defeat the PAP.
